Being an open source maintainer probably isn’t a fun job. Looking at glibc bug #4980, neither is having a conversation with one.
This all begs the titular question: is Ulrich Drepper a giant douchbag?

Heh. I was reading this bug thread yesterday after I saw it linked on ycombinator. I then discussed with friends/colleagues (actually just one coworker who is a friend). I argued that this kind of thing is common with OSS where the developers never physically meet one another, never have to face each other in the office break room or the like. The semi-anonymity of Internet teams breeds hostility I argued. (See: Internet Arguments.) In the end, though, I think we decided that many software people just have a predisposition to be complete douche bags.
I’m not sure, we certainly didn’t know any douche bags at Pitt.
some hax0r needs to break into the DMV and change Ulrich Drepper’s license plate to “RFC-2553″.
