And then I see a darkness

Well you’re my friend
(It’s what you told me anyway)
And can you see
(What’s inside of me anyway)
Many times we’ve been out drinking
And many times we’ve shared our thoughts
But did you ever, ever notice
The kind of thoughts I got
Well you know I have a love
A love for everyone I know
And you know I have a drive
To live I won’t let go
But can you see its opposition
Comes rising up sometimes
That its dreadful imposition
Comes blacking in my mindAnd that I see a darkness
And that I see a darkness
And that I see a darkness
And that I see a darkness
And did you know how much I love you
Is a hope that somehow you
Can save me from this darknessWell I hope that someday, buddy
We have peace in our lives
Together or apart
Alone or with our wives
That we can stop our whoring
And pull the smiles inside
And light it up forever
And never go to sleep
My best unbeaten brother
This isn’t all I seeOh no I see a darkness
Oh no I see a darkness
Oh no I see a darkness
Oh no I see a darkness
Did you know how much I love you
Is a hope that somehow you you
Can save me from this darkness

hello!
I am from Russia and my English is not very good.
Please, can your describe me meaning of lines:
“And you know I have a drive
To live I won’t let go”
?
As I understend now:
- at first he has “love for everyone he know”
- at second he has something else — “drive to live he won’t let go”
- and there is an opposition between first and second. Between love and drive.
is it right?
and what does it means: “drive to live I won’t let go”?
I know all these words, but can’t understand they in combination :(
and, another guess.
if we breake “drive to live I won’t let go” to “drive to live” and “I won’t let go”
we got “drive to live” — energy , desire to live
and “i won’t let go” — he will not relax, he will live brightly
but — what about opposition? betwen love and such drive? why?
does he really mean this?
I find reason of my misunderstandings. I’ve read wrong text (from here http://www.azlyrics.com/lyrics/johnnycash/iseeadarkness.html )
They write:
…
But can you see __this__ opposition comes rising up sometimes
…
So I decide, that opposition between love and drive. And it is not true.
Your text is better.
As I think now, more better text looks like
…
But can you see its opposition comes rising up sometimes
…
without ‘.
Sorry to trouble you.
Hi Sergey,
I got the lyrics from the lyricwiki. I think you’re right about the translation, I’ve actually changed it to:
